Stock Your Closet Program

ExCEL to Thrive provides clothing, shoes, and toiletries to schools for students who are experiencing economic hardship. We partner with schools and work directly with administrators and staff to identify specific basic needs and ensure that provisions are received on a regular basis. Our goal is to consistently meet the physiological needs of students to build confidence and increase motivation to focus on academic achievement and personal development.

Academic Transition Program

ExCEL to Thrive offers reading and math courses for underserved students in 7th - 12th grades to help close the achievement gap and prevent further widening of the gap caused by learning loss during COVID-19 pandemic. This program is designed to address reading and math deficiencies to improve the academic preparedness of students for the next grade. ExCEL to Thrive also offers SAT preparation for 9th - 11th grade students. Courses are offered during the summer.



Mentorship Program

ExCEL to Thrive’s mentorship program supports personal development of underserved students. Students attend workshops and field trips to gain real-world knowledge and skills, while building relationships with mentors. In the mentorship program, students engage in activities on the following topics:

  • Job interview skills - Students will learn how to effectively search for jobs, write cover letters and resumes, and prepare for interviews. Students will also engage in mock interviews.


  • College & trade schools - Students will learn how to select schools and apply. Students will also visit college and trade schools.


  • Financial literacy - Students will gain real-world knowledge about money to help them develop healthy financial habits and attain financial stability.


  • Volunteerism - Students will volunteer to support local organizations to boost social skills and raise awareness of social issues.
